i have 2 usb external drive bays, 2 different manufacturers, on 2 different computers both with windows 10. whenever a usb drive bay isn't being used for a few minutes, it turns off. the power light is still on, but the drives arent spinning and windows doesn't know they are there. i have to get up and walk across the room, reach under the desk and turn the bay off and then on again if i ever want to use it. so annoying. USB Selective Suspend Setting is disabled

oh well i guess they're both Orico. but i think ive seen this with other brands. they plug into the USB and you can slide your hard drive in it like a Nintendo cartridge
Ah, I do not have much recent experience with those. We have a bunch of older Startech 2-bay ones here but IIRC we normally used them in the past for drive duplication. Hopefully someone with more experience with these here has some insight.
Have you checked your Power Options inside the Control Panel? Inside your Power Plan there are advanced settings and one of them determines when a hard disk turns off.
